Overview
Ultimate Safety Training is helping to fund the Taranaki branch of the nation-wide programme, the Enviroschools Programme, which aims to equip young people with the competencies they need to be leaders in sustainability. Initially Wood Group has committed to fund the trust to the value of $10,000 in 2014, with half of this to go towards supporting school sustainability projects. In the longer term it is anticipated that projects will be spread nationally to help raise the profile of Wood Group PSN. It is also anticipated that Wood Group staff will be able to participate in future projects with their time.  Social responsibility is one of the seven Wood Group core values Paul Tippett, Finance Manager at Wood Group says, we decided to partner with Enviroschools to support school children to create a more sustainable future for themselves. Wood Group have committed to Enviroschools for an initial term of three years and further success stories will undoubtedly follow.

Response

In the first half of 2014 applications were sought from Taranaki Enviroschools for funding for Action project grants with the emphasis on sustainability and Enviroschools best practice. Two Forgotten Highway Enviroschools, Toko and Huiakama were chosen as having the best applications, coincidentally both involving chickens. Paul and Rosanne visited both schools as part of the judging process and were impressed by the enthusiasm and involvement of the children in the projects.

Result

On September 5th Paul and Rosanne visited both schools to handover a “large” cheque “to help incubate the respective projects!”
